About the Artist

Contemporary Folk Artist JD Logan, entirely self taught, turned to painting when an injury to his left hand in 1998 forced him to set aside the guitar, his first love. From the beginning, his paintings have been inspired by the peace and beauty of the surrounding hills and towns of his New England home.

JD is represented by Galarina Folk Arts in Shipshewana, IN,? and The Robert Paul Galleries in Stowe, Vermont. His paintings hang in numerous private collections in the US and abroad.

In 2002 he decided to devote his full time to creating and promoting his art. Thru his business "Half Acre Farm Designs" he oversees the publishing and marketing of his prints and notecards. That same year "Country Home Magazine" featured JD and he was named "Editor's Pick." Recently, Early American Life Magazine chose him to be in The Directory of Traditional American Crafts which recognizes the country's finest artisans. His images are sought after for everything from CD covers to posters promoting prestigious New England events and festivals. J.D.'s work can even be seen regularly on the set of the hit TV series "The Gilmore Girls."

JD lives with his wife of 17 years, Kim, and daughter Emilee (as well as his three feline studio assistants: Patches, Gary & Tootsie) in a small cape nestled in the hills of Western Massachusetts. JD's sister, Carol Lew, lives nearby and is also an artist. You can view her Old World Animal Portraits at her website. Working out of his home studio, surrounded by family and nature, JD seeks simplicity in both his art and his life.
